Welcome to our Grade 5 Math and Science Website!
MATH
Below is a link to IXL Math, a great opportunity to practice 5th grade math skills:
Students are continuing to use a check list in class to track their progress as they work with IXL Math. These skills are connected to the Maine Learning Results standards and are a great way to reinforce the learning that is taking place in class. The goal is a minimum of 25 skills per trimester, connected to the lessons in class.
We will be working on the following topics in the Everyday Math program throughout the second trimester:
UNIT 4: Division
UNIT 5: Fractions, Decimals, & Percents
UNIT 6: Using Data; Addition and Subtraction of Fractions
Rapid recall of the basic math facts is very important at this point in your child's education, so reinforcement at home using flash cards or other drills will be helpful. Please encourage your child to continue to practice the math facts.
SCIENCE
During the second trimester in science, we will be studying the following skills:
Identify the 3 parts of an animal cell.
Explain how cells, tissues, and organs fit together to comprise the various body systems.
Describe the role of each body system in the human body.
Name the organs that comprise each of the human body systems.
Explain the function of each of the organs making up a given body system.
Show how body systems are interrelated to one another.
This will be done using a variety of methods, including text books, videos, and online research.
