Program Description

The REAL School is an adventure-based Alternative school with minimally restrictive components of Day Treatment for students with extreme social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs from RSU#14 and several other districts in Southern Maine.  We provide highly individualized, strengths-based educational programming to illuminate, celebrate, and leverage the inherent gifts in each student.  We are successful in meeting the needs of a widely diverse student demographic, including disaffected students with no identified disabilities, students with learning and/or emotional disabilities, and students with lagging social/cognitive skills or other health impairments.  The Hard Rock Café’s “Love All Serve All” motto best describes our admission requirements – any student in grades 7-12 who has failed to thrive in other school settings may find hope at The REAL School.

Brown University is doing a survey for RSU 14 Middle and High School Students and Staff.  If you have not already participated, (please click here for the link.)  Real School Students and Americorp Volunteers have created a fantastic movie based on Service Learning.  (please click here to view the movie)  The Wellness Team would like to congratulate Nick Thompson, a REAL School student. Nick has been awarded a  2013 Wellness grant. Nick plans to use the grant to purchase sleds and stability balls to use with our younger preschool neighbors on Mackworth Island.  Nick and a few others  have been working with these students all year.  Congratulations Nick!
