Name:______________________ Date:_________ Period:______ Classification systems

Classifying things require that you look for common factors. There are two methods that we have examed so far. The first is grouping by structure: what it’s made of, shape, size or other physical appearances. The second method of grouping is by function: what it does or how we use it.

Using the list of car ads provided by the teacher you are asked to do the following:

    1. Read through the ads and decide how best to group the ads. You need to have at least 5 different groups.
    2. Using scissors cut out and separate the ads.
    3. On the large construction paper divide the sheet into five columns.
    4. On a separate sheet of paper write out the Rules for each group.
    5. Using a glue stick, glue the separate ads into the appropriate classification group.

You may work in a group but make sure that each of you has their own poster.
