BRIDGES Program - Who We Are and What We Do

Welcome! I am very excited to get the word out regarding the Bridges program here at WMS. Bridges is a self-contained special education program that is designed to provide a multitude of opportunities for students including:

  • An individualized academic curriculum based on the Common Core
  • Opportunities for community involvement
  • Teaching self-advocacy skills
  • Improving communication skills
  • Teaching social and emotional skills
  • Encouraging students to be productive and responsible citizens
  • Teaching behavioral regulation strategies
  • Maximizing independence

As a self-contained program dedicated to teaching the whole child, our mission is to provide an individualized functional academic approach to learning, a supportive learning environment conducive to maximizing personal growth, as well as a continuous and consistent delivery of school services throughout the student’s academic career.

For the 2016-2017 school year, we have many exciting things planned for our students. Every 6-8 weeks, students will be taking part in a different themed-based unit of instruction.

Not only will our students be engaged in meaningful instruction throughout their day, they will also be provided with many other opportunities tied to our school, the community, and to Special Olympics. Swimming, skiing, bowling, grocery shopping, running our school store, cooking and delivering food items for staff, and taking part in our peer reading buddies program, are just few activities we will enjoy throughout the year!
