Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

The school year marches ever so quickly toward its conclusion in June. Students are presently engaged in end of year testing. Eighth grade students just completed the MECAS State Science assessment and all students are beginning their NWEA testing in mathematics and reading. NWEA testing scores will provide students and staff valuable information regarding achievement attained during this year.

Trips outside of the school always increase during the spring. Sixth grade visits to the Marine Resource Center in Portland have begun. This experiential school activity is a collaborative between schools, the Resource Center, and the University of New England. Its value for students has been significant and we look forward to our continued relationship with UNE and the Center to provide this opportunity for future students. Eighth grade students will be visiting Boston within the coming month. Please remember that as we consider eligibility for these events, respectful behavior becomes a significant factor. For all students to experience the tremendous worth of these experiences, all students must consistently display and practice good citizenship qualities that will further support the success of off-campus experiences.

Please remember that as warmer weather continues to surface, dress code becomes an issue if our policies are not observed. Inappropriate t-shirts, shorts and skirts that don't pass the fingertip test, skirts and tops that don't fit appropriately, as well as exposed undergarments will be addressed. Parents will be called if a change of clothes is needed.

We have begun to plan for next year. Progress toward finalizing the sixth grade move to Field Allen as well as the creation of 7/8 Academies in the main building is well underway for 2013-2014. Our schedule next year will move our REACH enrichment block to the beginning of the day. Music will also occur in the beginning of the day.

Have a relaxing and rewarding weekend.

Principal
