Parents->Suggestions & Parent Pledge

Families can help their children both at home and at school. Data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress support the efforts of families at home. The data means that families can improve their children's achievement in school by making sure that their children attend school regularly, encourage their children to read at home regularly and by turning off the TV.

Parents are encouraged to stimulate their child's interests in learning through books, creative play, self-help skills, proper diet and rest. When appropriate, it is expected students will participate in the following homework activities:

Discuss/share what has happened at school everyday, including work taken home
Read independently and/or be read to every night
Practice spelling words and math facts
Complete special projects as related to the theme being worked on in school

To help your child succeed in school........
Encourage a positive attitude towards school and learning
Provide physical care to prepare students for school-diet, rest and clothing
Support school systems and regulations
Communicate concerns to school personnel
Encourage regular, daily attendance
Encourage respect for other children, all school personnel and for property
Maintain communication with school by attending scheduled conferences
Participate in school-community activities like the PTA
Exercise proper supervision so the children's behavior will not be disruptive
Visit the school to become familiar with the daily routine
