Our Title One team works daily in all classrooms during the literacy block supporting all learners in the development of literacy skills. Title one staff also work with students at all grade levels to monitor progress on literacy skills using a quick assessment tool called DIBELS. DIBELS takes only four minutes to check in on a child's oral reading fluency, nonsense words, phonemic awareness and phoneme segmentation skills. Our staff checks every 4 to 6 weeks to make sure all students are making gains in these key areas of literacy. Our goal is to closely check student progress so that we can support learners who are not making progress.
Students who show they may benefit from more instruction are offered an intervention matched to the child's unique needs. Students who show a need for targeted instruction will get a letter explaining the intervention, the title one techs name and the amount of time the child will meet with the tech to receive the support. Most interventions last 5-6 weeks or less before students show progress and gets a celebration letter noting their progress on these skills. If you have questions about these services, please contact Kristin Grant or Julie Young at 892-1840.
